Loyola Mourns Passing of Fr. Patrick J. Cahalan, SJ and Fr. James A. Rude, SJ ’50
The entire LHS community is mourning the loss of two beloved Loyola icons, Fr. Patrick J. Cahalan, SJ and Fr. James A. Rude, SJ ’50. Fr. Cahalan, former President of Loyola High, entered into God’s peace on Feb. 14th at Sacred Heart Jesuit Center in Los Gatos, California. He was 86 years old. Fr. Rude, a long-time teacher and Jesuit at Loyola, also passed away at Sacred Heart Jesuit Center and entered into God’s peace on March 5th. He, too, was 86 years old and would have celebrated his 70th anniversary as a Jesuit later this year. To read their full obituaries, please click the following links:
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, March 8 at Sacred Heart Chapel on the campus of Loyola Marymount University. Loyola High School’s celebration of Fr. Cahalan’s life is scheduled for Sunday, June 7, 2020 at 10:00 a.m., here on campus, at a special Mass to be held on Smith Field. A reception will follow in Malloy Commons.
A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled to take place on Saturday, March 21 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Jesuit Center in Los Gatos, with burial immediately after at Santa Clara Mission Cemetery. A celebration of Fr. James Rude SJ’s life will also be held here at his alma mater, Loyola High School of Los Angeles, and will be announced at a later date.
Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
