Keith Jones ’79 Appointed as State Department’s New CIO

Keith Jones ’79 was appointed as the Department of State’s new Chief Information Officer and the Assistant Secretary level head of the Bureau of Information Resource Management by the Biden Administration on January 20, 2021. As CIO, he will be in charge of establishing technology strategic direction and provide oversight for $2.4 billion of technology programs across the Department.

The LA native and Maryland resident has spent more than 35 years in the federal government and has an extensive background in Federal IT, having retired from the Department of Homeland Security, US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) in October 2018.

Jones’ commitment to Loyola’s motto of “Men for and with Others” has been his north star during much of his career. In 2008, he founded the ICE Career Connections Mentoring Program, which “provides mentees and leaders across the agency an opportunity to enhance their careers and leadership skills through the development of dynamic mentoring partnerships.” He has also been driven by a mission to “assist small, minority-owned business by offering strategic acquisition capabilities across the various components of the federal government” through his time as President and CEO of Edgewater Group DC.
