Alumni Return to Inspire Current and Future Cubs via Zoom
As a result of the pandemic, Zoom has become a household name for students and teachers across the country. It’s also become a useful tool for Loyola High and its alumni.
Over the last few months, many school events that would normally take place on campus have been conducted virtually instead. For example, this year’s annual Career Day, presented by Loyola’s Counseling Department, hosted 25 sessions via Zoom with a number of alumni guest speakers sharing about a wide range of topics:
Christopher Rosien ’86 (Accounting), Jerry McBrearty ’02 (Aerospace Engineering), Melvin Robert ’01 (Broadcasting), Jim Hannon ’80 (Business), Paul Dia ’99 (Electrical Engineering), Rudy Loera ’75 (Engineering), Charlie Ferraro ’86 and Ross Wiggins ’12 (Entertainment), Emmett Malloy ’90 (Film/Theatre Production), John Calvert ’85 (Finance), Emil Sol ’18 and Andrew Perez ’16 (First Generation Students), John Attanasio ’90 and Christopher Ramirez ’82 (Marketing), Karl Kwok ’97 and Albert Mikhail ’89 (Medicine), Adrian Sanchez ’99 (Medicine/Research Science), Matthew Linesch ’03 (Music), Daniel Kirages ’90 (Physical Therapy), Jaime Rojas ’91 (Public Affairs/Politics), and Ian Ameche ’01 (Real Estate Development).
In March, Loyola also hosted an Admitted Student Event for the incoming Class of 2025 and representatives from our three Alumni Societies—the African American, Latino and Asian Pacific Alumni Societies—hosted welcome parties and information sessions via Zoom.
Earlier this month, AP Economics teacher Brian Held ’93 hosted his annual Economic Policy Recommendations & Capital Market Contest that featured a number of alumni who judged the student presentations. This year’s panel included Brendan Folan ’09, Mike Gilhooly ’88, Jim Hannon ’80, David Hilton ’99, Michael McCracken ’86, Brian Miller ’02, Michael Reilly ’81, Kevin Swick ’10, Ritchie Tuazon ’96, and past parents Jean-Marc Chapus and Allen Wisniewski. If you would like to find out more about the program or participate in the future as a judge for the student presentations, please reach out to Mr. Brian Held ’93 at bheld@loyolahs.edu.
We thank all of our alumni for generously giving back their time and expertise to today’s Cubs!
