Loyola Alumni Notes
With an alumni base that is more than 16,000 strong, Loyola Cubs from far and wide have had many notable accomplishments and continue to share some exciting news. Read below for some fun facts about our alums!
Cub Alumni Return to Campus, Honored on Veterans’ Day
- Mark Wood ’60: Captain in the Marines who received numerous Commendation Medals for his service in Vietnam.
- Curtis Dawson ’96: Served in the Army as an Infantry Soldier, Fire Team Leader, Heavy Weapons Team Leader and Lead Gunner for 13 years. Also the son of Loyola High legend, Jon Dawson.
- Josh Quaye ’01: Graduated from the Merchant Marines in 2008 and is currently a Lieutenant Commander in the US Navy Reserve.
- Fr. John Quinn, SJ: A current faculty member of Loyola for the last 11-plus years. Fr Quinn served in the Marine Corps, the NSA and then was a Chaplain in the Army.
- Graham Pulliam ’98: An eight-year Marine Infantry and Reconnaissance Officer with three combat deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan.
- Andrew Fogaros ’12: Served in the Air Force as a Cyber Systems Operator and received numerous Medal Ribbons.
- John Van Dyke ’55: Served in the Air Force from 1961-71 and achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
- Milan Ratkovich ’87: Served in the Marines from 1996-2005 and attained the rank of Captain. Was a CH53D and E Heavy Helicopter pilot and awarded a Navy Commendation Medal.
Fr. John Mossi, SJ ’62 Honored by Ignatians West
Loyola alum Fr. John Mossi, SJ ’62 was honored by Ignatians West with the Madonna Della Strada award for outstanding service in ministry and church life on November 10th. Fr. Mossi was honored for “always enthusiastically answering the call to do a workshop or a retreat for Ignatians West — and sharing his wisdom and faith in a way that touches the volunteers.” He currently serves in the Jesuits West Advancement Office in Northern California.
Marc Knapper ’87 Serving in U.S. Department of State
Loyola and Princeton alum Marc Knapper ’87 is currently serving as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for East Asia (Korea and Japan) in the Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs. A career diplomat, Knapper is also a member of the Senior Foreign Service of the U.S. Department of State.
Bill McMorrow ’65 Visits Loyola Real Estate Club
Bill McMorrow ’65 came back to campus last week to speak to the members of the Loyola Real Estate Club. Bill is the CEO and Chairman of Kennedy Wilson. Our current students enjoyed hearing his stories from his days as a boarding student at Loyola to now leading one of the world’s premier real estate investment companies.
Timmy Mehl ’14 Completes First Professional Season
Loyola Soccer alum and former Cub Athlete of the Year Timmy Mehl ’14 recently completed his first year in the USL Championship League as a defender with North Carolina FC.
Marko Vavic ’17 Named to USA Junior National Team
Former Loyola Water Polo standout Marko Vavic ’17 was named to the USA Men’s Junior National Team roster for the upcoming FINA Junior World Championships. The event will take place this December in Kuwait City, Kuwait.
Alumni Weekend: German-style
While we had our own Alumni Weekend here in Los Angeles, a quartet of Cubs from the class of 2016—Paolo Secci, Jack Wilson, Robbie Lowe and Kevin Fraher—celebrated their own version of #LoyolaAlumniWeekend in Deutschland!
