Anthony Barr ’10 Has a Big Year with Minnesota Vikings
It’s already been quite a 2019 for Loyola alum and current Minnesota Vikings linebacker, Anthony Barr ’10.
He played in his 4th Pro Bowl and he’s only been in the NFL for five seasons. That is a quite a distinction. Pro Bowlers this year could elect to have their high school decal put on their helmet, so Anthony was able to don the Cub Paw one more time!
Most recently when the NFL free agency period began in mid-March, Anthony was signed to a five-year contract worth up to 77 million dollars. He nearly signed with the NY Jets, but had this to say about the Vikings, “It’s the team that drafted me five years ago. It’s home. I’ve done a lot of stuff in the community with my foundation. My teammates are my family and this coaching staff has done so much for me not only as a person, but as a player.” So Anthony will remain a Viking and will continue to lead the vaunted, top-ranked defense in Minnesota.
Off the field, Anthony continues to do amazing things as well. In January, Anthony announced a gift from Raise the Barr to support research at the University of Minnesota’s Student Parent HELP Center (SPHC). The gift from Raise the Barr will fund a new research initiative to evaluate SPHC’s programming and its impact on student parents’ successful graduation. Raise the Barr provides scholarships for tuition and other education expenses, emergency grants for unexpected financial needs and other grants to expand post-secondary opportunities to single parent families. And this year they have increased the number of annual scholarships from four to 12!
Loyola High will be the site for the 3rd Annual Perfect Pairing Wine Night on Wednesday, June 26th. For more information about the event, click here.
